Limestone-Steel

Limestone is a naturally occurring mineral. The term limestone is applied to any calcareous sedimentary rock consisting essentially of calcium carbonate (CaCO3) in the form of the mineral calcite. It forms predominantly on the seafloor where material rich in calcium carbonate accumulates. Steel is one of the biggest drivers of the world economy as it plays a major role not only in the construction and automotive industries but also in mechanical engineering applications. One of the majors of limestone is in steelmaking. It is being used for maintaining slag basicity. In steelmaking, limestone is used in calcined form. The reactivity of the lime is to be very good, because of the lesser time available since the process of steelmaking is a very fast process.
